NIE via power of attorney? Only Spanish valid

Important update for NIE application: only Spanish powers of attorney valid.
As of November 1, 2023, there is a significant change in the application procedure for an NIE (Número de Identificación de Extranjero) number in the Province of Alicante, Spain. From this date onwards, NIE numbers can only be requested with a power of attorney drafted in Spain. Foreign powers of attorney will no longer be accepted.
While this official announcement currently pertains to the Province of Alicante only, it will become a general rule.
